The name was used for the first time by Theophrastus in 315 B.C. It comes from the Greek Criso = Gold, and Cola = Glue, referring to this mineral usage in gold welding.

Use
Chrysocolla is not very significant as copper ore. It is used in ornament manufacturing, usually in cabochon shape.
