The name was used for the first time by Theophrastus in 315 B.C. It comes from the Greek Criso = Gold, and Cola = Glue, referring to this mineral usage in gold welding.
André Jean François Marie Brochant de Villiers relived this name in 1808
Chrysocolla is not very significant as copper ore. It is used in ornament manufacturing, usually in cabochon shape.
